So yesterday had gone out front here at 2pm to 5pm got about 25 -30 perch but there were no keepers all around 4,5,6" at 3:30 or so a wave of what I would think 100 or so Cisco ( Lake Herring) had past under my hut they had gone, so game on lets fish but I guess there were a few coming up last in the wave, had got four nice size 2 @12-13" one 11" and the last one was small 7 to 9" back in the water they go (have to thats the law) and seen one small pike. Gave up at five hard to see down the hole.

Today was a long day drop the kids off at bus so got my gear and off to office I go, did I good day 9- till 3:30pm oh walk in to house to get some lunch.

9-12pm- small 5,6"-15to 20 no keepers
1-3:30- same 5,6,7 " 20 or more no keepers
The big ones have to come my way soon..... I think, I have all the males here ?
One good wave of Herring around 1:45-2 pm . But no pike maybe a good thing if he is not around .?

So my hut is in about 18-20 fow water and a little wash going to the Atherley narrows, so I think I have a bit of a highway going on and that is way all the Herring and perch go when they leave from under my hole . Only one pic. today. All that size

them s perch can be tricky when they get to jumbo size
went to barrie marina on sun
could see theodd jumbo one come in and grab the minnow but would carry it a distance before getting the hook in their mouth
could get em up a bit then they drop the bait

Thanks, it is only three times out in the hut so hey they no were the bait is now there are two more huts out with me but not much fishing going on in the week , so it is all up to me to call them in for lunch or dinner

Matt, when the perch are aggressive. Try jigging a silver spoon 2-3 feet off bottom, that sometimes triggers larger perch to strike due to instincts. I use a slab grabber or small williams and it does get the bigger perch and the odd dink as well. No bait or meat chunks, just a plain spoon.

Also try a jigging rap, perch pattern, big perch are cannibals.

I don't use live bait but do use what you had said . So maybe not useing live bait is a bad thing?

No not a bad thing. Sometimes you can catch perch with just lures sometimes they seem to want minnows. I usually use both at the same time. I don't like to fuss with buying bait everytime, so I bring a few salted minnows when I perch fish and use those. Salted minnows are much easier to transport and utilize for your daily outings.

Just got back not a bad day 9-1:00pm.
Did some stuff a little diff. 9-10:30 am seen a bit of change in the size of fish but did not keep any got 20 or so 8 to 10" range. Then this gone down hill the fish just took off and did not come back but thing are looking up, and the water on top of the ice made for not good walk in but all in all not bad day at the office. Thanks "TBF" Great update and Pic's....it helps us "out of towners" plan our trips up for the next day and how to prepare accordinly

Temps are dipping down into the minus + Snowsquals for Friday . Hopefully it will tighten up otherwise it will be a nice walk threw a few inches of slush .
