QUOTE (Mike D @ January 30, 2013 - 07:09 pm)
Maybe they won't go on the lake when it is unsafe again, maybe some others will learn from this too.  Why should taxpayers flip the bill for stupid people

Stupidity has a price!

I will say it again

So when the snow storm hit and 50 plus cars were in a collision after they were told to stay off the roads and to take extra precaution if driving they should all pay for the emergency services rendered.

This is a slippery slope we need to avoid.

This is bad news.

Maybe there is no community Just a bunch of people looking for spots and conditions.....

Hey LL; "No community' ????

I would suggest you come out to "OUR" M&Gs ,"OUR" yard sale and perhaps count the number of board members wearing their toques and displaying their decals...

This board" yes" does provide a lot of great info and advise but also starts a lot of constructive discussions that benefits us all !!!

Nuff said.....

That would be like being charged for Health care because you contracted type 2 diabetes from been overweight.

Bad decision by Scugog. They will lose in court and have to pay legal fees to boot. Of course on the taxpayers dime (million).

I will agree with you on that. But theres so many ways you can twist and compare this accident to others like what u mentioned on the pile up. Its not the same thing in my eyes but in others it may be. It is a touchy subject 100% and will cause many different opinions to come out. Glad the guys safe! Way i see it is, its a wake up call for some that think they know whats safe and not safe.

I wouldn't worry about tax dollars bein wasted. There wasted in many worse ways than this. This guy got turned around in the fog and ended up in some unfamilar territory. Yes a simple G.P.S could have prevented this. Give the guy a break

Folks, get the facts straight. This was a retired school principal. A reasonably well educated man who had been ice fishing for over 30 years. He did not go out when it was unsafe. He simply got turned around in the fog when he was walking back to shore and found him self knee deep in mud and asked for help. And he got the help he needed.
The fact that he got a bill for this is ridiculous. A slippery slope to be getting on.
