So the ? I have to ask with all these fines happening if some one had to be rescued now do you think they would think twice for help and think they could make it out with their own man power because now they know a fine will given to them if some one arrives / rescues them?

Well, from what I heard, once you are rescued and/or are back on shore, you still have your constitutional right to "remain silent" (That is, when asked who you are, you may choose to act as if you were a deaf). Then what? No name? No address? No nothin'? Then no fine!

(But don't quote me on this. Don't quote me on nothin':-)

Xiaolu, that is absolutely hilarious, and makes total sense!!! Up untill the cops or paramedics drag you down to the hospital to check and see if the "mute" has gone into shock!!!! BUT!!! The right guy could probably pull it off. Problem would be you "should" have your fishing licence on you as your I.D.!!! So scrap that idea! But, that was funny!

Hahah I guess so !

I'm sure they will ask for your license or some kind of piece of Id . Interesting to find out how this all works especially if someone disagrees on being rescued knowing they will be fined...

Re. the Scugog rescue, fire deparment was issued instructions to ask for names and then have said person sign off on paper.

without that there will be no fine. take the 5th.

With all this crap going on I have to ask, why the frig are Trucks being dispatched for ice resue...Are they going to drive out and get people

The Barrie Fire Chief just opened up himself and the dpartmenet for a rash of lawsuits imo.

he now has to point out daily if ice is safe or not............which of course he will never say it's safe, but yep I think that man is not quite right in the head.

To be rescued, or not to be.... That is the question...

Sorry I just had to too.. My bad, this is serious, not a joking matter.

Unfortunately, those that ice fish make up the minority, I know we would like to believe the world revolves around fishing and all fishy matters, but the reality is that most of the population, especially those city folk who do most of the voting, actually think ice fishing is crazy... When 1 guy needs to be rescued off an icy lake, they all freak out, media picks up the story, those siting on their comfy sofas by the fireplace watching the tube -- shake their heads.. Phones start ringing, pressure gets put on the city and then someone does something about it. Like impose fines. This road we are headed, doesn't look good...

Thinking about the comment about not identifying yourself.
# 1 You are not committing a criminal offence, your situation did not arise our of a deliberate action ,Mother Nature is not predictable . Therefor the CCC is not applicable, therefor you can choose to remain silent
#2. You are or committing and offence in relation to the trespass to property act, again identification is not required.
#3. You are hopefully to committing an offence in relation to the Liquor Licence Act where identifications a must.
#4. Local by laws do not contain a clause that requires you to identify yourself.

Hopefully during the rescue you are not in a situation hat requires you to be transported to hospital. But again remember the patient confidentiality .

Hope this helps, but this can all be avoided if one just uses common sense.

Cheers,
Stay safe.

My wife is a volunteer fire fighter in Mapleton. They just started a water rescue unit. All the safety gear, suits, tanks, ropes etc are equipt in the trucks. That is why you would have all the trucks there. Also you need a crew on land for medical if there is a hypothermia case. Also you need throw bags and ropes on land to keep the fire fighters safe if they go in. That way a crew on safe land can pull them out and back to safe ice. It takes a whole crew for a rescue and they have to be prepared for every situation. Plus when a call comes out, all the pagers go out and they are not totally aware of all the info before they arrive on a scene. Better more than not enough.
Just some info to let you know why you will have that many involved.
