hardwater rods, for Lakers and Whitefish

I was looking through the post but could not find anything about what rods people preferred
I have a few questions I was hoping you Simcoe seasoned anglers could answer.
What would be the better rod for fishing Lake Trout and Whitefish. I was thinking a heavy action 30" rod for the Trout. or would I be better off with a medium action for both species. or light action for the lite biting Whitefish.

medium heavy for all around fish in on Simcoe other than perch.. i use a wooden stick... cheap and easy and always catch em.

I use both, but I am not worried about how long it takes to land these guys. A softer rod means it takes a little longer to bring up and helps ensure a successful live release. And I also enjoy the jigging stick. Lots of fun, no eyes to freeze and hand drag. Only thing is to keep the line going in order or it can be interesting to sort out.

I use an ultra lite rod if using a minnow and inside a portable. It' super soft nd takes along time to get a laker up, but no damage done as it always blows air out before landing , so easy release. same with WF.

For jigging guys have been mentioning St. Croix rods along with some others.

Don't think you need a super heavy rod at all, medium shoould be just fine.

I have modified several rods from my nephes bass rods which he always seems to break 6 on average per year, so just use the tip section to make a 32 inch rod..........easy to do and pefect bend/action on most of these.

The there is the jigging stick.....hard to beat

plus the balanced tip-up again in a hut/shelter with 2 way spreader

like longshank, my favourite rods are the tip sections of fast action bass rod blanks, but i like my rods to be 40 or 42".

I have a 32" medium heavy st croix rod and wish i went with a lighter rod everytime i use it.

I use a St. Croix 28" medium rods for Lake trout and white fish. They do the job it find it easier to use in my portable Clam Hut.

I don't worry wether it is medium or heavy action.
As I don't have a hut and fish outside, I look for a rod with large guides so that I minimize ice freezing in the guides.

i build my own and sometime use the tip section of old rods just fo fun.i did buy a fenwick ice in medium for perch , if in a hut shorter rods if jigging outside i like 42-45 inches with larger guides. recently built some fugly wrapped rods the night before going out and they have been the best so far for me.
