Hey everyone,

This is my first year ice fishing and I am going up to Anglers Haven in a few weeks with a couple good friends of mine. I have been doing a lot of research and the more I do, I swear I get more confused of what type of equipment I want to get...

In your opinions, what type of rod should I get? Ultra light? Medium?

What type of line and test? Mono? Fluoro? Braided? 2 lb 4lb 6 lb? This is where Im really confused....

Also what would your setup be on your tip up? heavier flouro line with a leader and mino

I dont have a lot of money because I am in college or I would have 2 different set ups (one light and one medium) so Im looking for the best set up for my situation

I know no matter what Ill have a blast just hanging out with friends and not focusing on school for a weekend but Id appreciate any advice you may have to increase our chances of catching lots of fish

Thanks a lot for your help!

For a beginner a tip-up with line and hook with splitshot 6 inches up, fished 1 foot off bottom will catch you fish. Cheap but effective.

This, in fact, has been the rig that has caught the most wally's for me this year so far. Can't go wrong.
