I was planning a trip to simcoe next sunday for 2 days of fishing with 2 of my friends were younger 23 yrs old and i have only ice fished a handful of times and my friends have never. We are all avid fisherman though just havent got the opportunity to ice fish much as we are from the buffalo area and not many small lakes around to fish and erie is just dangerous to ice fish.

Me and my buddy were talking though and are considering to try nippising instead i love walleye fishing and fish the french river every spring what would you guys recomend i know simcoe is the ice fishing capital, but id like to get into some EYEs. what is a realistic amount of eyes for each of us to catch in 2 days and how many perch is average up that way as well as the average size of the perch?

Im really leaning toward heading to nippising but just curious on the average outcome of what to expect in nippising? I already now what to excpect in Simcoe as i have been there before.

As well has anyone had any luck with crappie in nippising i know when i am in the french river in the spring we usually get into some monster crappie. 2 yrs ago we found a sunken boat dock and were killing 13 - 14 inchers and i pulled out 17 incher, honestly never caught a crappie under 12 inches there I know they are connected waters so was wondering how th crappie were up there would be cool to get into a few of them.

Thank you and appreciate any input.

Thank you for the info. I am not to worried about the limit changes I will probably only get a conservation license all I need is to get a meal or 2 in my 2 night stay I dont want to clean 100 fish its just not worth it in my opinion. I am mainly out there to just catch a bunch of fish an have a bunch of fun im totally fine with throwing my fish back to live another day, i just love the thrill of the catch.

Dont get me wrong i love to eat the fish but clean 100 perch is a pain id rather clean a hand full of eyes and maybe keep 20 - 30 perch at the most.

quick question about whitefish too i have never caught one through the ice, but always buy Alaskan whitefish at the grocery store and they are my favorite fish to eat baked are they the same species as the Alaskan white fish, i think they taste almost exactly like saltwater cod.

P.S. I dont know if i am going to sleep this next week jus thinking about fishing i have been going through fishing withdrawl so far this winter

Its been excellent fishing on Lake Nipissing this winter. I am hammering walleye in 10 feet of water and catching a few pike too. Perch are really biting out in the deeper water where you will also find whitefish. BTW there are no crappie in Lake Nipissing, but maybe on the lower French River. I hope you and your buddies make the trip up here you won't be disapointed. Msg me if you want any more info.

If you guys plan to fish "hard' then 6-20 walleye per day this year would be easliy attainable.

20-30 perch per day or more as well.

Sizes .all over the map, but expect mostly under slot size.

Whitefish are there as well as pike and ling

Experience on ice fishing will for sure come into play

Irregardless,,you will enjoy the adventure up there no matter what.

I noticed your comment about cleaning fish..with a conservation license you are allowed 1 walleye, not a handfull, whcih yould give you a meal of 3....rest would ghave to be perch or other species.

GL.
