Hi Folks,
I thought I would ask in here as I haven't had much luck ice fishing for crappie. In my defense I have only fished for them a handful of times during the hardwater season and my best lure to date is the 2 1/2in silver williams whitefish spoon.. Go figure.. Anyway I was wondering what techniques or baits others are using to catch them. Anyone use glow jigs or glow in the dark spoons to fish for them in the evening/low light? Not asking for secrets, just some tips on what I should try.
Thanks in advance.
Jerry

small mamooska jigs tipped with a waxie especially when they are finicky and a finesse shad body bait works good also in natural colours.get most of my crappie in the early afternoon.

I use a few things. Small dimond jig with a small minnow, or just the minnow head. A Northland forage minnow jig (glow in the dark)with a small minnow, or head. Strike King Tootie Fruitie tubes, black/pink work good. And I don't know what brand they are but theylook like a tic tac, very sharp hook, and I load it up with maggots! Real, or Gulp!
Cheers!

Thanks for the lure suggestions and tips. I think I will try the afternoon/evening bite tomorrow on Lake Scugog. It sounds like I need to scale down and finese them into biting. I'll give it a go..

On Scugog, I use the one in the middle with silver tinsel strands.

I agree with tubes . They work best for Crppies . Espically Black with Green tail . Green Jig head .

You can also Try Green jig head tipped off with a minnow.

Always remember its how you fish your jigs . Crappies look up to hit baits . They rarely go down to the bottom to hit your jig. I always jig above them .
