Beautiful fish, specifically a Chain Pickerel I believe. Not common in Canadian waters that I know of. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for correcting me Laker Fisherman, I knew that but had forgotten, must be oldtimers I think they are really rare here in Ontario and absent west of here but gee, I could be wrong about that too.

If my grey matter serves me correctly, nsfisher/Craig had a chain pickerel caught in NS in his avatar photo.

Craig?

Disclaimer: My grey matter is like a pasta strainer.

Definitely a chain pickerel and we do have some lakes with them in the eastern part of Canada.

I used to work for the Nova Scotia Department of Inland Fisheries a few years ago and they are not native to the Province. They were introduced in the 80's and have had a huge impact on the native fish. They have spread to almost the entire Province and are now starting to enter some very sensitive water bodies. That being said, they are pretty fun to catch and can get surprising large.

This is also a pickerel

grass pickerel

They are cute little guys, they look like a tiny pike (the word pickerel actually means small pike)
