This was our first ever trip to lake Temagami, I could’ve finish my fishing report right here with big fat period. Thinking highly about our catching abilities we decided not to go with outfitter but book a lodge and try to find honey holes ourselves…Big mistake for the first timers, this lake is huge and without knowing there to go your bets are dismal, we learned it hard way…Upon arrival we bumped into light truck stuck in deep snow few feet from the ice road, helped guys out and got a first news ,these guys were locals who were fishing for 4 hour by ice bungalows in 90’ and got one small trout…It was discouraging, but having high expectation and been under influence of excitement we moved ahead. Weather was challenging with strong north wind and -16C, and we spent all day moving, drilling and trying, result was 3 small lakers and one little white fish between 4 of us. Next day we were fishing back lake and caught 2 more whitie and one small walleye, but everyone agreed that this trip was great! It is absolutely beautiful lake with breathtaking scenery and plenty of fish (you just have to find there they hide lol), the water and ice are unrealistically clear and people have northern warm hospitality. Already planning our return, with some adjustments made considering this time experience. Here is some pictures from our trip

Hi Sidehook,
I'm glad you had a good time on your trip to Temagami. I have only fished that lake once (last year) and it can be tough. I rented an ice bungalow with Longshank and let me tell you those fish were finicky, not what I expected for the far north. We caught lakers with live minnows on or near the bottom. All lakers were small, under 2 lbs. In the evening and at night we caught ling, once again all small, but I caught a pile of them. They were in 30-40 fow near a rock pile. I was trying for walleye at that spot, but did not catch any. Then the whitefish, I only caught one, but it was a good size (about 4 lbs) and Longshank caught about a half dozen whitefish, all with tip-ups. I used a rod for most of the trip, and only tried a tip-up on the last morning since they seemed to be working better than set lines and a fishing rod. Also most of the fish were caught under the bungalow in the chumming area. Whenever I moved away from the chummed area, I caught very few fish. This was my experience last year, but hopefully with a few more trips I can figure out a working pattern.
It is beautiful and pristine country up there and if you go during the week, very very quiet and tranquil.. Loved it up there in God's Country..
Thanks for the report and hope to fish with you again soon... Cheers, Jerry
