With the 2013 Walleye Opener coming up and our annual May 24, long weekend fishing trip, I am looking for suggestions on spots and lures for the opening season for walleye on the south shore of Nipissing.

This is the second year that I am going up to Lake Nipissing, south shore, to join a group of guys that have made the annual pilgrimage to Nipissing to fish for the long weekend. Every year there is a big fish competition. Winner gets the trophy, sets the rules for next years trip, $20 from each of the losers and bragging rights for the year.

Last year, I came in second!!!!! And, had to listen to my fishing buddy all year about winning, and beating me out. So, I need any suggestions on spots and lures from the experts on here.

Last year, I targeted mostly humps in 20 - 30 FOW. This is where most of the fish were caught. But, one day I crossed the lake and went to the three islands north of the south shore, and caught a big fish shallow on a wind blown point.

Humps were fished with a jig head, trailer and worm. The shore fish with a stick bait. We also tried some bottom bouncers, but caught mostly small fish.

So, any suggestions on spots to find 'em and how to catch them would be much appreciated.

If anyone wants to give up there honey hole, PM me and I will split the pot with you, if I catch on your spot.

Do guys feel like this opener will be different due to the late winter, as the water is going to be much colder than previous openers. will that be a good thing with it likely being a late spawn? i am just hoping the ice will be off by then, looks like weather is finally turning the corner. "WLDCHLD11" myself and my buddies do the same thing, couple bucks on the line for big fish of week, must have photo evidence beside measurements, makes for great fun after havin a few beers discussing. a bad day of fishing is better than good day of work.
