Hi Everyone,

So my girlfriend finally found my fishing vest and threw it in the wash, in her own words "This thing stinks! You are Grossssssssss! How can you wear it???? Disgusting........." and so with my fishing vest now smelling lavander spring fresh and bouncy soft ---- this ends another season of steelheading adventures...

I had a good Winter / Spring 2013 chasing chrome in all the rivers and creeks, watching the conditions carefully and with some great success. I did experiment a lot with gear and baits and it was fun both trying new things and of course catching fish...

My outfit for the season was an 11' 6" noodle rod, shimano spinning reel, raven floats, fluoro leaders, spilt shot and small sharp hooks #10-12.

Here is the rundown on best performing baits:

1) Roe /spawn sacs (caught the majority of fish)
2) plastic trout worms (10% of fish)
3) Beads (10% of fish)
4) Rubber eggs (5% of fish)

Here is the colour rundown of spawn sacs used:
(From Best to Least productive)

1) chartreuse
2) peach
3) white
4) orange
5) blue

Of course some baits/colours worked better on some days, depending on water clarity, fishing pressure, time of year, water temperature and factors I just didn't understand. But it was fun trying to figure out what the fish wanted on a particular day/outing, and that's what fishing is all about. I caught fish in all sizes from big brutes and reel screamers to shakers and egg eaters. The majority of the fish caught were steelhead / rainbow trout, with only a few small resident brown trout this year. I will be back at it in the fall, until then -- here is the fish porn..

Holy Trout Jerry, there's some real beauties there.

I notice you slid a couple of Craig's in there too. Excellent report, perfect amount of detail, a good model for others. Why am I not surprised? You ARE THE guy behind this board!

Hey Jerry,
You had a fantastic season and I truly enjoyed the couple outings we did together. I have now seen your fishing prowse and dedication to the sport and you are a true ambassador. Now that I am fully geared again I am hoping we can get out together a fews times in the fall. Thanks for posting a couple of my pics also.
That 1st big bow is a brute, congrats as that is a real trophy fish.

Great report, when I looked at the first fish with what looks like black gums, I thought it was a large male coho. But it was a trout eh. Now for lake fishing.

Yes, a big male steelhead / rainbow trout. I did not get a weight or measurement on it. But I estimate high teens / low 20's. Released of course..

Great pictures!!! Funny how I feel better just by looking at them while i'm stuck at work!! Being able to get out and fish my-self would be the best, but everyone sharing their pictures, surprisingly puts me at ease!! Thanks!

Awesome report Jerry Lots of great fish and for sure that first one was a brute. Also a few nice fish for Craig

I enjoyed getting out with you a few times for lessons in river fishing. I'm looking forward to getting out earlier in the fall to enjoy the fishery that is in our back yard now that I know how to fish it.

P.S. Love the fish porn
