Launched out of Port Dalhousie today. Gorgeous day.
Going out of the channel is a huge sail ship.
I'm not a fan of sailing, but this thing is super cool.

We ran out to 115 feet, set the lines and started the search. Big change from yesterday. Couldn't find the baitfish or the real fish.

As you can see there was NO wind.
We tried different depths, and switched spoons over n over. NADA!
I ran into Shank again. Just waved. I think he had Dan on board.
Decided to try a bit deeper and bingo the rod popped! It was a screamer.
It was over 150' of water, with the line set at 40-45'. And on one of Shanks spoons!

Since I had some on the BBQ yesterday I decided to let this one go after the great fight it gave me.
Hers the release.

Only got the one, and had to call it a day.
Cheers!

Thanks for the report and great pics Mark. Nice fish! Good job on the release.

(I'm no fan of stick boats either but the big ones are an impressive sight.)

Love the shots of the release! I haven't seen that before.

By the end of summer that beauty will be a great fish.

Hey Mark, that's a nice one and it was a beauty day today. Chris and I had a lovely boat ride today. looks like you beat us in quality but we may have you on quantity depending on how many shakers you picked up. I will post a report in a bit.

Thanks for the report Mark, that was a really nice fish While you had no wind, we had it all! That tall ship is cool. There is a tall ship festival on up here in Brockville this coming weekend so I'm wondering if that ship is coming here? Did you catch the name of it?

Yay......great pics and happy to see you bang a good one.

It sure was a different day....bluebird and like glass out there.

We struggled to get 3 fish into the boat and lost 2 one being a screamer.

But what a day......sure not used to flat water.

That 3 master headed to NY and was an American ship.

John, from my work with the Navy I learned a fair bit about what flag is proper to be flown where and when. Assuming the ship is US registered, that US flag is properly placed on the mainmast. When in Canadian waters, it would be a courtesy to fly the Canadian Ensign slightly lower on another mast. There is another flag on the mizzen (rear) mast. Hard to tell but it could just be a Canadian Flag which would be acceptable. That said, I would say the courtesy is only observed by 50% or less of civilian operated ships. Military ships are far more strict about flags and have very complex practices. Few countries actually legislate requirements for foreign ships in their waters. So far as I know, Canada is one that does not.

Just remembered, the courtesy Ensign is usually flown from the foremast.

I just checked the 1812 Tall Ship Festival for Brockville and yes, it will be there this coming weekend. We may head over on Friday to check it out since it is only 20 minutes away and there will be 11 ships on display.
