Has anyone knows the different between Stripe Bass, Silver Bass and White Bass?

I looked at some fishing show in the State and their Stripe Bass is huge so I think they are 3 different speices. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks in advance!

Striped bass and white bass are two different species, although closely related from the temperate bass family. White bass and Striped bass can hybridize together and are called wipers.

Silver bass is just a nickname for white bass.

Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong, White bass and Silver bass are the same all depends were your from for what you call it, kinda like Walleye or pickerel, same fish pending were your from. I know nothing about striped bass but the do get big and believe there a bass that comes from down south in the U.S.

White and silver bass are in the bass family normaly a big bigger then a perch and caught in the great lakes mostly in the colder months easily in the rivers.

Strippers, Wipers and Stripped bass and some are hybrids put in lakes to inland lakes by the DNR in the states and are hybrid from salt water and silver/white bass. They get big (30LBS+) and some say they are the strongest fighting fish...more then smallmouth.

they could survive and get really big in the great lakes but would put a toll on the baitfish

We have Striped Bass here in Canada in the Maritimes in NS and NB.
I use to fish the Kennebecaisse River near Hampton NB back in 1992 and regularily caught Striped Bass when there was an Open Season.
The Fishery is in trouble, so I started CPR...Catch, Photo and Release after talking to a Biologist.
Now it is a Catch and Release Fishery Only if at all.

[• The season for striped bass ends on October 15 in inland waters.
• The season for striped bass is open year-round in tidal waters.
You are allowed 1 Striped Bass minimum 27.7 inches and maximum 59 inches......45 cm to 150 cm for you young guys and gals.
No Fishing Licence is required for Tidal Water].

The Striped Bass come into fresh water to spawn in June and stay until just before winter when they go back to salt water.
My biggest was 35 lbs and it towed a 15 ft aluminum boat up against a 4 mile an hour incoming High Tide.
They Bulldog and Head Shake vigorously but the Big Ones don't jump....small ones will.
They have a firm white flesh when cooked and are excellent eating.

The World Record Striped Bass is 78 lbs 8 ozs and they have been caught in Nets in the Ocean over a 100 lbs

Thanks for sharing that and the pics Bob, (Laker Fisherman). They must have been a hoot to catch, my arms ache just thinking about it.

When I moved to NB they fished for tiny Brook Trout and were very happy.
I couldn't get anybody to go fishing with me in my boat.
After seeing the pictures of the Striped Bass, I had absolutely no trouble finding fishing partners.

I had to laugh when I cleaned a 30 lb Striped Bass at a Campground one night and a few guys saw me doing it and then I disposed of the head and guts.
In the morning they told me the head weighed 9 lbs....Yeah they got it out of the garbage to do it.....Only In The Maritimes. LOL.

Bob

PS: I got the cheeks first.

You read my mind in advance Bob. When you said they took the head out of the garbage, my immediate thought was why of course, to get the cheeks. Then I saw your P. S. and really did laugh out loud, you beat them to it.

Great pics laker Fisherman,

We used to do well on the stripers in Grand lake "Fall River NS" just troll some J-13 jointed rapellas at the right time and lots of fun. Usually we started just before dusk and continued into the night until the beer was gone. "Those were the good ole days" Great fighters, most were between 6-15 lbs but we always caught a few near 20.

Thanks nsfisher

My go to lure was the silver and black Rapala Floating S18
The PB for me [35 lber] had 8 baby eels in it's stomach, so guess it thought the
Rapala was one.
We would fish for hours and hours not getting anything and then one day BINGO....figured it out....Hey these things are hitting when the Tide starts, either High or Low.....High was best though.
Ronny my Buddy cleaning the fish would phone me and let me know when High Tide was starting and we would time when it would hit Hampton NB and be there waiting for the fish to come into the Marsh.
The power of the Bay Of Fundy's Tides always blew me away when you could see the current going upstream on the Saint John River at Fredericton NB 72 miles away from the Bay Of Fundy.

I miss fishing for Stripers.

Bob

shagdrrotten6969....Let me know and I will go with you.

Sept is the best month to go just before Duck Hunting Season starts.
Duck Hunters get upset when they see you trolling cause they figure your
scaring the Ducks away from their Blinds.

You work for your Stripers because the Tide rips the weeds and there is a lot
of floating weeds.....Troll 100 ft....Reel in and clear your lure....Let out line and
Troll 100 ft and repeat over and over again.

By the way.....I don't need a GPS for the Honey Holes. LOL.

A Local asked me if we caught any fish and I said look in the cooler and when he did look in my cooler and saw the Stripers he offered to let me leave my Boat at his house, so I didn't have to tow it there if I would show him where we were catching the Stripers.....I didn't though.
There were a maze of channels through the Marsh and as long as you didn't stand up to fight a fish nobody could see you in there from the main part of the river.

Bob

PS: Striped Bass are one of the few fish that can live in either Salt or Fresh Water.
