Took my first run of the season on Lake Ontario today, shortly after noon, to off shore of Toronto Islands and Leslie Street Spit. The sky was clear but there was a good chop on the water with a steady breeze. Water surface temperature was 55 F.
Fished mostly 150 - 170 FOW, at times weaving in and out of floating logs and branches near scum lines. Saw many bait fish - mostly 60 - 120 FOW, some in very large balls. Many 'hooks' were also observed, both around and away from bait fish.
Fished 110 FT down with cheater line (~50FOW). Noted a few dips in the tip of the rod (beyond those produced by a steady chop - waves about 2 feet with some roller-like action earlier on). No hookups. Finally, hooked a small chinook when I moved closer to shore to around 110 FOW at 80 FT down.
A beautiful day to be on the water, especially after having my engine in the 'boat hospital' last week.

Wow......Graet report. Thanks for the update. We seem to be a little behind on the north shore this year. It can only get better......couple more weeks. Hope to see you out there. I like to venture down to the spit when it gets going.
