We are back up in the Thousand Islands again for our weeks vacation. It was drizzly but calm out so we decided to head out fishing. We didn't want to head too far in case it started to downpour so we tried an island close to the cottages.
We were drift jigging with minnows and about 15 minutes in, fish on. At first I thought it was a bass because it was fighting pretty good but it ended up being a 11" perch and into the livewell it goes. Next fish on was for hubby, a 12" perch and into the livewell. We moved back for another drift and I hook into a 25" pike which we would normally keep but decided to let this one go since it is only our first day here. I put it back in the water before realizing I should have taken a picture but don't worry, hopefully there will be lots of fish porn coming.
We fished for about 2.5hrs before heading in and ended up with 4 nice perch from 11-12.5" and we also caught a couple smaller pike as well as a few smaller perch who thought they were 12"ers . We both had a couple of nice pike on but couldn't get them to the boat. I'm hoping there are no more fish stealer's staying here this week so we put the fish in the basket to filet up later. The weekend weather looks great so lots more fish to be caught.

Today was another overcast day but wasn't raining and calm so a great day for fishing. We got up late and headed out around 9:30 to one of our favourite spots. We had bought some large minnows and I was just using a bare circle hook with a couple of split shots to get it down to the 20-25 fow we were fishing. I had a nice 25" pike on within 10 minutes which we took a picture of but put it back as it was kind of skinny. This pike was nice enough to leave the minnow on the hook so casted out again and soon enough had a 22" pike on. It was kind of slow after that so headed to spot #2.
Hubby caught a couple of smaller perch but nothing much else happening so on to our failsafe spot which we always do well at. It was slow on the first drift but coming towards the end of it, hubby managed a nice 28" pike on a slip bobber and quickstrike rig which went in the livewell. He switched to smaller minnows after that to hopefully catch a few more keeper perch and caught a few nice rock bass instead. I still had the same big minnow on which was dead by now but pike like dead things so kept using it and it got me another 22" pike but lost the minnow. One of the large minnows had died overnight so I decided to put it on and was a good decision. This minnow caught me a 24" and 23" throwbacks and a 28" keeper. They were expensive but at least I'm getting multiple fish out of them The 24" pike had the minnow crosswise in his yap but didn't want to let go. Just as I was going to net it, he finally let go but I managed to net it before he swam away.
Hubby also got a screamer take off on him but his drag wasn't set right and when he went to adjust it, the fish came off. From what I could tell it was either a big pike or muskie but we will never know.
It is our 17th anniversary today and still had to get ready for a trip to the casino and then dinner so we called it a day. Tomorrow looks like another great day

Yesterday was a beautiful day except for the wind that was suppose to be 10km but I've never seen 10km wind that produced whitecaps. It was fishable though once you got out of the direct blow down the river. I was going to try a new spot but it was too windy and no fish on the screen so we headed to the main channel.
I put on a large minnow and hubby was using the smaller ones to perch and pike fish. On the first pass Glenn caught a couple smaller perch and another pass caught him a nice 29" pike which was nice and chunky so in the livewell it goes. We tried another spot nearby by no takers there so went back to the channel but the other side. My large minnow had died after a few missed hookups and finally came off so I put on a new one. We were in 40 fow and blowing quickly but put down anyway. I made it to the bottom and almost immediately had a heavy fish on. It was a great fight and took a while because of being down so far but when I finally got it to the boat I was surprised to see it was big 27" walleye. After a quick photo and measure we released it.
After a shower and lunch we headed out again with a friend who lives on one of the islands. We tried a few spots but was way too windy at them so found another place by Glenn's clients island. Casting spoons and spinners we had a few followers but no hookups. I still had a minnow on from earlier in the day so put it in to see if they wanted meat. First place I dropped in, I see this huge pike come out of the weeds and grab the minnow. FISH ON!! It was a fairly quick fight and hubby netted it. The fish was nice and calm getting unhooked and hubby and our friend were getting their cameras ready. Just as I got it unhooked, our friend said I wonder how long that fish is and without thinking, I went to go measure it and flip, flop, over the side it goes No pictures taken. I would guess it was a personal best at around 35" but will never know unless I hook it again later this week.
We dropped off our friend since he had to go to work and then went back to the channel. My large minnow was still on but was missing his face so I wasn't expecting to get much. Hubby brought in a few 11-12" perch which we kept and then I hooked into something large. I almost thought it was another walleye as it was a similar fight but it was a 30" pike. After that, we figured it was time to head in for dinner.
We are heading out again this morning with our friend before the rain starts and then I have a lot of fish to clean.
