Hi All ,, A lot of ppl think sheephead is only good for the garden ,,but if you really now the good and bad about it you will see a different side to it ...

Last year I went fishing at the dock in callander ,, was talking to a fellow fisherman that was keeping just about everything I was giving him my sheephead and he asked me why I was not keeping them I said heard that they were not good to eat. he said they are very tasty so the next one I got I took it home to try it (was ok) A little different taste but ok .A few days later I went back same spot and ran into the same person he asked me how I liked it and I replied it was different but ok he asked me how I cleaned it I said I fillet it and he asked me what did I keep ,, was a little puzzled and said the 2 fillets I said. He chuckled and said you just keep the back I thought Hmmm he said when you take the skin off turn it over and cut along the lateral line keep the top part and throw away the rest the deferent taste comes from the belly they are bottom feeders, so I tried it again cleaned it the way he suggested and what do you now it was pretty good bad taste was gone cold figure just that little thing made all the difference now I keep them all the time

its just to know how... and now I know ,,

It seams like no one is targeting this fish it is very tasty and there is no shortage of them in the lake so give this a try you may like it and we can try to drop the population in our lake not Shure the limit or is there a limit hmmm (must look into that) so don't just go by what ppl say try it ..

Will do but won't be back to Nip until ice fishing season. Anyone catch sheephead through ice? We never have only during softwater.
