Hey guys making a trip up to nippising in late July and was hoping to catch some walleye. Now I fish Lake Erie for eyes weekly and I know this is a much larger different lake than nip and we generally troll 50-60fow. Can I troll if I go what's the best way to catch eyes

Hey Brendan, welcome to the board.
I would suggest read some back post in this forum as they will provide lots of info on technique and baits. There is also some great info. At the top of the forum. Just click on the fishing tip tab.

Have a great trip, please post a report of how you did. We love fish porn here

Hi Brendanmitchell,

For what my local opinion is worth...you will have better luck if you are trolling on Nipissing. Use a chartreuse or red and white 1/4 oz jig or worm harness with a worm or leech. As of this week, the walleye seem to be in 12 to 18 ft. of water and keep an eye on the temps...the cooler the better. Find yourself some steep drops or mid lake humps ( be sure to ask Gord and Hunter's Bay...he can put you on some spots not far from his launch there). The south bay has historically been a good place for walleye, so finding them will not be your biggest worry...waves and weather will be the issue of the day. Morning or around 7:30 PM seem to work better for me, but I have caught fish mid day.

Good luck and be safe out there...Old Lady Nipissing can come up on you in a hurry so keep an eye on the sky my friend.

Hi Brendan,
I fish Nip a lot. I like to troll to but the nicest way to catch them up there is still fishing and using jigs with stinger hooks. They are known originally as a Sturgeon Falls Stinger. You can buy them all over the place up there. Red and white work well. Worms have worked the best for me. If I can't get on top of the fish or if I don't know exactly where they are I will troll using a bottom bouncer and a worm harness 3 - 5 ft back. I like a spinner blade just ahead of the harness.
I fish the south shore area and by late July the fish in my area are down around 30-32 ft. You'll see lots of boats fishing an area - just head for the pack and scout it out with your fish finder.

Good luck
Jigs

I'm not an expert on Lake nipissing but just like yourself I am from the Niagara region and trolled for them in lake erie where we use harnesses in 65 fow and keep the rig down only 20-25 fow for suspended eyes. I was sucessful in June up there at South Bay using harnesses and a bottom bouncer in 12-14 fow but now the water temps are warmer. I'm sure the key is finding the right depth and trolling
