I have seen a lot of out-of-town peeps asking about how the fishing is, what to use, what is being caught..etc. So, I figured I would take all of you along on my fishing trip today (virtually...my boat only holds 6...lol). Nothing special, weather is overcast, wind supposed to be light, and I am planning to be on the lake by noonish today. I will post pictures of what I am using and what I am catching. As per board rules, I can't give you exact locations about where I am, but I will tell you the general area, how deep, weeds or sand bottom, etc. etc.
I will be totally honest, and will not sugar coat anything. I am doing this in the hopes that I can promote our fine lake to those that are wondering if the trip up north is worth it, and what a typical day would be like (i.e. in 2013 with the new regulations for 2 fish).
Anyone has any questions, fire away. Just so you all know, I am bringing a BBQ and plan on having a shore lunch.... (wish me luck).
Oh ya, and not to disappoint the moderators on here, yes there will be fish porn in my next few posts...lol...gotta take care of you guys too.....

Great to hear Skramo, have a great trip I am looking forward to your report with pics. Thanks also for abiding by the rules about locations. If you want to let fellow members know some detailed info you can always use the PM. Be safe and don't forget a couple shots of those shore lunches

Ok so here goes...and again...this is actually what happened and is a typical day on Nipissing for anyone (ok I may know a few good spots...but feel free to PM me and I would be glad to help you out)
I don't quite know how to post more than one pic in a post, so I apologize for the many posts.
First pic is of the truck and boat ready to go! This was around 11:45 am today.

Here is what I am using.....1/4 oz yellow jig head and a glob of worm. I can't stress the importance of "glob" here. I have experimented with different amounts of worm on my jig and can honestly say that the "glob" is hands down superior to a small piece or half a worm.
The line I use is braided, and lets me feel every little tick and bottom feature. Note that I troll using this jig and it bounces off bottom...so you have to get a feel for a bottom bounce vs. a light walleye nibble.

First fish in the boat...not a lunker by any means but hey...it's a fish and these size are excellent eating. This was caught around 12:30 in the afternoon, overcast skies.
NOTE: Before anyone asks or comments, I have abided by all limits for quantity and size....there were 2 of us in my boat, so we were allowed 2 each on a sport fishing licence......

Second fish in the boat...well ok I have to admit it was fun to catch...but not to eat...back it went.
When these things bite...it's more of a bite and run thing...and at first you think you have caught a mother of a walleye, but when it fights back....you know you have the ever popular "sheepshead".

Second walleye in the boat...again not a lunker...but perfect for a shore lunch! This was caught about 15 mins after my first walleye on same bait and conditions. We were in about 12 feet of water, overcast skies.

Here is the 3rd lunker....lol...again not big but tasty on the BBQ. Caught 1 hr after the 2nd walleye. Same conditions, same depth, same bait....remember the "glob" folks...it really is important.

And here is a perfect Nipissing shore lunch on the amazing Manitou Island beach. Nothing better than that "melt in your mouth" fresh walleye. It was truly an awesome day, and I did not have to try very hard to nab our limit of walleye.
All in all, I managed to catch the following fish today:
4 walleye 2 Sheepshead 2 Smallmouth Bass
All of these fish were caught on Lake Nipissing between 12:00 noon and about 7:30. Same bait, same method....slow trolling bouncing the jig off of the bottom (sand bottom). It seemed to help when we encountered a small weed patch or two which likely provided cover for the fish.
I hope that this "virtual" fishing trip is proof to anyone contemplating visiting our fine city and the awesome outfitters locate on the lake. Check out some of the links above and the sponsors on this website, and go visit them! As you can see, you won't be disappointed.
Cheers all, have a great long weekend, and perhaps I will see ya out there!

Great job Skramo and great report. Some nice eaters there Do you ever use minnows on those jigs or the glob of worms is the ticket?I see you even have the personalized plate so I have to ask. Does Skramo mean get out of here or does it have another meaning? Damn, you had to add that pic of the shore lunch, now I am hungry. Fresh Walleye is on of my favorites. I have never fished Nip but hope to make it there during the hard water season this year.
