Gowlunker and I have been hitting a couple of creek mouths this week hoping to hook up with staging salmon. I've been on nights this week so we've been arriving at the river around 12:30am. The moon has been shining very bright and I think we may have gotten some moon burn. The salmon have not been very active with just the occasional splash. We started with casting Cleo's and other spoons with no luck. Gowlunker decided to try a crànkbait. That's the ticket!
I never thought a bass crànkbait would work for salmon but they do. The colour didn't seem to matter. Dark and bright ones worked. I managed to hook into a few but couldn't land any. Gowlunker managed to land 6. Lucky *^#^€<££!!! I thought that maybe a few would be foul hooked but all were right in the mouth.

Now the porn.

Dale you should be doing the same. Only had one chance to go this year with two hits for 2 hours. You know where. Maybe when I get back.

Great job Sniperlee, you can also try a jointed J13 rapella chartreuse. Always worked well at the mouth.

LMAO at that salmon pay back pic.

i've always found that a suspending rattle trap retrieved very slowly works the best for me but sure seems like you don't need my advice. nice fish

thanks guys. you're right 'fork' slow rolling the crankbait seemed to do it. it seemed like a light bite and then hang on.

another thing: it seemed like they would slash at it,almost like they were trying to stun it. i thought it was just bumping across their back or sides but soon after we would get a fish.pretty exciting.

now to figure out what this rain will do to them. i'm thinking the run is just beginning so the river mouths should be good for another week or two.if the rain holds off.
