Ladies and Gents As the salmon season for me winds down, i find myself making plans for next year and am looking for some advice. I would like to incorporate two leadcore setups for next year. My plan is to run them off boards and not down the chute. I am thinking ten colours each ........but here is my dilemma and question. If i run off boards i will be only able to run the full ten colours. I would like to segment them with a ten or so foot section of mono so i can split the core up and be able to use the mono for board releases. I plan on using small Spro swivels for the connections of mono to lead core. This setup would give me a little more flexibility for different depths and save me some cash not having to buy multiple rods. Has anyone tried this and what are your thoughts? Thanks people......any feedback would be great. Cheers Chris

Havnt tried it. I would consider a 7 colour as well. 7 was extremrly productive this year. I would have 2 10s and 2 7s. Start wiyh one of each. Then see which one fires. My 7s took more fish then my 10s. Use a medium size board. Hope this helps

Thanks Kingkiller. That was my thoughts on splitting the core up with mono in-between segments. I could split the ten to make a seven and ten. With a mono section in between i could fish either length off my boards and only have one rod with dual purposes. I am trying to ease the cost of four setups and only get away with two. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks again Gentlemen. I was under the impression you could not use lead core with offshore releases as it would distort the line. Hence the mono sections. If thats the case and i can clip it onto a scotty release.....perfect.

Well, that works well enough for me and no issues so far. having said that, mostly I do run it down the pipe, but it does get in the way from time to time.
I just love it when the "Punisher' fires off on a light drag setting though and it sure wakes people up in a hurry
You;ll just have to play around with how much tension you require depending on how many colors you put out.
Or as mentioned, you can buy leadcore in a variety of lenths. colors

I had the same dilemma was trying to reduce the cost a bit and what I did was got a 300 copper and put a 2 foot section of mono at 100 foot intervalsand I did the same with the 10 color I did 2 5 color sections I used micro swivels the same ones I use for float fishing so there is no interferance with the guide's It works like a charm and you can then use any release you want without distorting the copper or leadcore Just my .02

Just read this again and it should be pointe out that with the use of leadcore off boards, you can run into some difficulties every now and then if you run your boards out too far from your boat as the core line will drag down and sometimes flip over your planer board line.
This can be prevented by a shorter board run out. or as mentioned before usning differnt core lengths.
