Hello - Two buddies and I are headed to Memquisit Sept. 26-29. Coming from Cleveland and Chicago, we're looking forward to much better fishing than what we're used to, but we really only have a rough game plan.
Any recommendations on species, techniques or locations would be much appreciated.
Right now, we're planning to focus on pike/muskies, smallies and possibly walleye, but the pike population seems to be mostly smaller fish and it sounds like the walleye fishing is generally pretty unproductive. I'm wondering if there are other species we should target...
Again, any good advice would be a huge help -- thanks and good luck to everyone this fall.

Welcome aboard timlobello4, I only hard water fish Nipissing so I cannot offer you much advice but the post below yours - New Member posted by Philbert will give you some insight as they just returned from Memquisit. Check through some other posts started by SKRAMO, he seems very knowledgeable on Lake Nipissing. There is a slot size for walleye on Nipissing so make sure you know the rules before you venture out.
You guys are travelling a good distance to get here so I wish you the best of luck, let us know how you did when you get back.

I returned from the West Arm last week of August and have had good success there over the past 20 years from mid-August to late September. We primarily fish Muskie. Lots of big fish in the 10 to 12 foot weed flats out in West Bay starting just east of Memquisit all the way down to the Hay Narrows. Look for the big bay mouths on the north and west side of West Bay. The best bays usually have creeks running in the back end. We usually fish out at the mouth of these bays as the weeds back in the bays will be starting to die off later in September. Cast or Troll (my preference) big bucktails or spinner baits. Blacks or Perch colour patterns have worked well, so do reds and oranges. Trolling speeds anywhere from 3 to 5 mph (fairly fast). Castings minnow baits and glide baits works as well. Also hit the drop offs into the deeper main river channel heading west back up under the bridge through Warrens bay and on up. Concentrate on the greenest weed edges dropping off into deeper water. You're heading up of the latter part of the time period I've usually fish there, so.....weather may have a big impact on your overall success for Muskie. Let us all know how you do.....I'm interested to see if these techniques will still be effective heading into early October. Good luck
