Well I missed it. I worked a 12H night and was sleeping but the boys woke me up at 3p.m. to clean the fish. lol. They caught at 1p.m. 3 walleye's off the dock and a sheep head. Glad there is fish in the house again. I cleaned the fish in exchange Mark will do the dishes. lol

I have googled "cleaning a shephead or drum" and saw that they cut the upper half of the fillet off a drum (leave the ribcage untouched) and then cut out the Y bone and are left with a pretty nice size fillet. Can't say I have ever eaten one, but perhaps we should all try it and report back on how you cooked it, and how it was?
I would be interested in hearing about how it tasted.

I am not sure if posting links is allowed, but in the interest of eating and cleaning sheepshead, I found this video by Italo Labignan that shows how to clean such a fish. I guess people do eat them.
Admin: if this is against the rules I will understand if it is removed....again I am posting this in the interest of educating myself those that were wondering about this.

someone posted on here once before a good way of preparing sheephead, it had something to do with preparing them on a cedar plank and cooking them on the barbeque. when it was ready the instructions were to take it off the barbeque and then throw the sheephead in the garbage and eat the cedar plank

OMG that's funny. I asked Mark about eating sheep head and he said he doesn't eat anything with a sucker mouth because they taste sandy and eat all the crap off the bottom of the lake.
Oh ya and finally hitting the lake today. Hope to catch the all mighty Musky

Good luck Michelle, hopefully you will have some pictures to post
I have been fishing north of you for the past week, we fished Dymond the other day and caught some nice quality walleye. I have a post under Northern Lakes with some pictures if you want to take a look as I know you fish this lake as well.

Michele,
goog luck with the musky fishing. It's true three walleyes were probably an awsome meal. Just letting others know that I filleted the sheepshead in the photo in the previous post. They are bony and very little meat but it really had an ok flavor like a white bass. In eastern europe they are a delicacy. My wife is Eastern European and insisted on keeping it.

well the fishing was not good for me. My dad caught lots. Must not have liked my line. lol. we both had the same spinners. Still had lots of fun. The winds were too much this am so I headed back home.
I am not good with lots of bones but love to try any fish out there. If I ever catch a sheep head I'll give it a try
FatRap I'm on my way now to check out the pic's I love that lake

Michele,
Just wondering what size were the muskies your dad caught and where were you fishing because Lake Nipissing is very large? I went fishing tonight(Canada Day) in the Niagara River because it's famous for muskies too. I don't have a boat so I was casting from shore. I tried many spots but caught no fish.

Oh I should have created a new topic as we were on nosbonsing. lol He caught no musky. He landed two pike a perch and while we were trolling (unheard of) he caught a nice fat catfish. Although we didn't keep anything ......all night I could here from my dad..."how many fish did YOU catch Michelle " We trolled the narrows to stay out of the wind. My god it was colder boating across the lake that morning then out ice fishing this year wearing the same jacket. lol but once we were in the narrows it was nice weather.

Michelle,
Hey "the mighty muskie" IS THE FISH OF A THOUSAND CASTS" . At least you and your father had a nice experience together. There's nothing like being on the water on a northern lake like Nipissing or Nosbossing. Tomorrow I'm going fishing for the almighty Muskie in the Upper Niagara River from shore cause I don't have a boat. I'm not expecting to catch one either but the fresh air and relaxation is great for my health. One day soon I'll go back to Nipissing though
