Here's an excerpt:

"Nov 2013 - In October 2013, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the first evidence that grass carp are naturally reproducing in the Great Lakes, specifically in the Sandusky River, Ohio, a tributary of Lake Erie.

FOCA’s Tracy Logan adds, 'this development may be a strong indicator that the more troublesome related species (Silver and Bighead Carp) may also be able to self-sustain a breeding population in the Great Lakes.' "

That's some not so good news Gord, I am sure they will effect the lakes in years to come.

It's terrible news Craig. I made no comment on my original post because at that time it would have been so profane I would have to immediately delete the post.

I keep watching the reports and finding from the countless meetings and assesments that in the end keep this entire threat bogged down in a quagmire of inaction.

electric shock barriers and other preventative measures will not work forever if at all.

On top there are 2 rivers that when at flood stage have a complete unblocked passage to the Great lakes.

The arguements of these carp not being able to survive or thrive is redundant IMHO.

The other item of great concern to me is the fact that Ontario allows importation of these carp for sale in Toronto primarily. This should be stopped immediately as not all are dead and it is Asian custom to relese live fish inot waters as a sort of "blessing"

Not to centre out our Asian community, but it is what it is in this case.

I'm not done ranting, but will stop here for now

A multi billion dollar fishing industry is at stake both commercial and non

I guess all we can do is pray that the electric fence works. and if not fertilize our gardens with ground up carp.
