The weather looks like it's going to turn after today so we decided that this was the final weekend for boat fishing. There were some high winds on Friday but it was still fishable so we headed out for a couple of hours. The perch were co-operating but not the pike. I managed to get two perch which we kept, a 12" and 11" but the rest were in the 7-9" range so we threw them back.
Saturday morning was quite nice with moderate winds of 18 km/h but it was not too bad. We were drifting by the bald eagles nest and I saw a big mark on the sonar. I figured it would take a few minutes for my dropshot to catch up to the mark and then WHAM, it hit and it hit hard. After a few runs it tired himself out and we got it netted and pictures taken. A really nice clean fish, the chunkiest one I have seen in a while and was still in our keeping range at 29".
The wind began to slowly subside throughout the day but after that one pike, only the perch were biting. It was such a nice day but we had decided to pull the boat Saturday afternoon because of the high winds and rain expected on Sunday morning. By 3:30 fishing was still slow and we had lots to do with the boat so headed back to the launch with frowns on our faces.
Today was spent cleaning a summer's worth of scum from the hull. It has been in the water since April 26th and is the latest that we pulled the boat in November! I can't complain too much about this years fishing and our purchase of the trailer which has me looking forward to next year even more. I had my personal best fish in 4 species, and Glenn beat 2 of his species, all from within 12 minutes of the trailer!
Now its onto river fishing and then ice fishing!
Here are the eagles (sorry about the quality, they were a bit too far for a better picture)
