Congrats to the young Lad!! And kudos to Dad as well for facilitating. You guys are gonna have some great eating this year. Bear is my favourite. Always try to have bear roast for thanksgiving whenever possible - beats turkey every day and twice on Sundays.

We know someone who can get us stale buns from a subway shop. Cooking grease from restaurants. Our local feed mill makes a commercial bear bait for 20$ for a 25 kilo bag in pellet form. It works great because they can’t carry it away.

Donut shops used to give out huge amount of donuts but don't anymore.
Where do you guys get your bait?
I just buy whole corn at the feed mill. Cheap Cheap. Also bring my own 5 gallon pail with lid and they fill it with 60 pounds of molasses for $35. Can fill a 55 gallon barrel with 250 lbs whole corn and 20 lbs of molasses for about $70. Never failed me yet.

Congrats to you both! I dont know much at all about bear hunting, but looks to me like a lot of fat under the hide on the big one for this time of year. Is that a lot for spring time or is that normal for that age of bear? I would have thought after a long winter they’d be more lean and trying to replenish all that fat before next winter.

The first bear had no back fat and this one had a solid 2 inches on it. I have been involved in 6 or 7 spring bears and it’s the most IVe seen. It rivalled the amount of fat on the last fall bear I shot.My feeling is it’s an unusual amount of fat for a spring bears and.
