Went out yesterday to one of my favorite spots, got my gear on and my decoys in hand and stated to my spot. on the way there I realized I forgot my gun at home so back to my truck and head home. I just made it back to the farm at legal shooting time and head to my spot set the decoys up and loaded my gun and sat down. Waited a bit to get myself settled down after the screw and then started to soft yelps and the odd purr and got a gobble but it way behind me. I waited a bit longer and started with yelps and I got a response from a angry hen who would not give up. she finally came out into the field and ran towards my dekes and was just yelping and cutting for quite sometime. This went on for about 30mins when she finally walked away. In the meantime there was no more response from the gobbler and I thought that was it so I thought until I see him strutting close to the bush edge to my right. I purred softly and he gobbled once but he was ever so slowly making his way to my dekes but I couldn't move to get my gun up because he was coming in along the bush line. He finally started walking at an angle away from me but towards the dekes and he got to about 30yds and had to wait till he turned his back to me and boom down he went. Big tom with 9-5/8" beard, 1-1/4" spurs and weighed 23.4lbs.
