My son and I hunted the opener in heavy rain with no gobbles andthe afternoon with lots of action and many toms sighted but no shooting.
We went again Sunday morning to a beautiful picture perfect weather morning. We heard many gobblers so setup near a couple and started calling. About half an hour after flydown a tom worked its way in and at 25 yards I put it down.
After celebrating we set back up but the birds had quit gobbling and after an hour we started out. As we were crossing a field to get back to the truck we saw a group of strutters in the next farm over. As we were watching someone shot one of the toms and the rest ran into the bush.
We quickly went back to our setup and started calling.Fifteen minutes later a silent tom came in to 35 yards and my son took his shot. The turkey bowled over and he ran to it but when he got there he couldnt find it.It was a fairly open area so we were shocked we hadnt seen it run off. My son took ten steps and found the turkey in a small ditch. What a relief!!!!
