Since my first bird the beginning of May i've been out quite a few times, had many toms come to the calls but they would always get to about 50 to 70 yards then turn around and keep going in the opposite direction. This morning I decided to leave the dekes behind and set up at the edge of the wood lot behind my house. Started with soft call first thing and a got a gobble right away.
I waited about 10mins before calling again and got the tom to respond again. within in seconds a hen comes out really close to me and starts yelping looking for the hen who's been calling she walks into the field and starts getting furious with me calling back so i stop and the tom walks out into the field and i waited till he got to about 20yds and I fired and down he went.
12" beard, 1-1/8" spurs and 21.7lbs, check out the green tinge on the back of his head
