My opening day started with 2 gobblers hollering near property line. At 7 am..BOOOM! Somebody on next property quietened one up. After an hour, heard a lone gobble. By 10 am. I had a parade go by my setup. 6 hens, 14 jakes. I knew Tom was close so waited. 5 minutes after they left I aggressive called and he answered. Right where the others went...behind me. The dirty dog went around me. And looked at me from 100 yards away and then left. Exciting morning. Wasn't ready to tag a Jake. But had a lot of excitement. No beak meat but I'll take a good day anyways. Lotsa time left. Good luck everybody.

Is anyone else noticing the absence of hens this spring? Day one, 11 males (3 tom/8 jake) in a group cruised by me. Day two, one tom. Today, I saw my first hen -- a solo about mid-day. Then an hour later, a group 9 males (5 tom/4 jake) out looking for trouble.
Other buddies have commented the same variety. Where are all the girls?

you gotta love it when your plan comes together. I walked right into there bedroom. I spooked one out of it's roost before daylight, so I sat down right away and got ready. daylight came and i gave a couple of calls on my box call and they all exploded with gobbles from the roost. Ok game on. I waited for them to fly down. Gave one more light call and that was it. I could and hear him coming so I waited and then BOOM. Nice tom 10in beard and 1in spurs. I will be back with a second tag.

I've been seeing alot of hens. Mostly singles or small groups of 2 lately
Few weeks ago they were in groups of 8-10 with only one or two males mixed in
Same here. Been out scoping other areas for this weekend. Also how many people are using blinds. Ive been just bunkering down lately. Been out 2 times only so far may do a evening try tomorrow and early Sat morning.

Check your weather forecast for Friday:
"Strong northwesterly winds Friday into Friday evening.
Strong northwesterly winds gusting up to 70 to 80 km/h are forecast to develop Friday morning or near noon across the area. These strong winds will continue into Friday evening before easing.
These strong winds will toss loose objects and may cause some tree branches to break. Isolated power outages are also possible."
I'm off first thing to retrieve the one popup blind I have out. The other blinds are constructed of branches, so they'll have to take their chances. Blinds are nice in that they allow you to use a chair -- if you're not doing the run and gun thing and plan to sit a while -- and also to rest your gun across the arms of the chair. It also hides your movement when calling if you're not using a mouth call. Our group is probably 50/50 sitting against a tree and hiding behind some blind structure.

I use both, a popup and camo burlap and brush blinds. Both are good! Killed my 1st Tom this year out of the popup. Very comfortable and movement forgiving.

I’ve been finding lot of hens sitting on their nests the last few days...... With that said the Tom’s are moving around quietly during the day,so sitting longer than usual is key. Killed my 1st tom this year @ noon...never made a peep, just showed up on the clover field along with 2 of his buddies. Of course I killed the biggest of the 3. Had a fun day afield!! Thanks for the nice comments guys! Good luck to all!!

Took a rookie buddy out yesterday morning and was able to get him his first bird. With covid and schedules this seemed like his only chance to get out for the season. Had a strong gobble coming from behind us but couldnt work the bird out to the field. 30 mins later 2 Jake's walk out straight ahead and towards our blinds. I love the reaction when people get their first birds. That's all for me time to focus on fishing now. Good luck guys
