My understanding of the rules is that the tag holder needs to be within 'communication range' for someone else to shoot the animal. Typically I think that's considered a km or two. Maybe a little more if you have radios.

Does anyone know what the official rules are?
FYI I'm not a big game hunter...yet
The rule is to be within 5km of the person that holds the seal.

I hold a status card as well. BUT I still buy a licence to hunt and fish off the res I party hunt for moose. we follow the rules to the T. I am the only native in the group. but follow the same rules as everyone else. some of us hold bear licence as well including myself. it is emphasized who have bear tags and only those carrying the tags shoot the bear if at all. we are checked by the mnr regularily and have a good relation with them. there is zero tolerance to stupidity in my opinion. you want to break the law and rules expect to pay the piper. I love to hunt and love this land and I do all I possibly can to maintain it with in my abilities. in you have no respect for it YOU ARE WELCOME LEAVE . and that is being nice about it tite lines and good hunting pickerel24

Thumbs up to Pickerel24 . I am in the same situation as yourself & have a harvesters card . I still apply for tags & follow all the laws . This RobRob is so far out of touch . You have to wonder why he would even post this garbage .

Rob's post is good.... shows that CO needs to be out there more and more and look deep into all situations. I believe him when he says many people out there are doing it... just like his camp with 10 guys and 1 bear tag. Goes to show that those 10 so called hunters are not honest.... knowingly doing something wrong together.

I have to admit that I smiled a little when I read it was in Longford Township. I probably shouldn't begrudge those that have access to the township - but I kinda do.

I hunt mostly alone now but know my share of gangs that only buy one bear tag just incase . Yes its not legal but doesn't get me all in a twister . At one time a moose license was good for bear to as was the same with deer licenses . I also find this moose transfer of a tag just redtape . Let the guy leave it to another if he has to leave early . Illegal now yes but that is my opinion but da law is da law so my opinion doesn't matter . The judge don't care .

I see RobRobs point...there are a tonne of groups doing things the wrong way all the time...but it doesn't mean its 'OK' to do it that way.
Following the people doing things illegally sets a terrible stage for our youth and apparently even our older hunters who think "He did it, so can I".
Sadly I've hunted with guys that like to do things the wrong way which is why I don't hunt with them at all anymore!
Rules are in place to protect the animals and safety of others. Yes the ministry gets their money from hunting tag fees and such but it doesn't mean you poach because it is the first deer/moose/bear you have ever seen in 25 years and are sick of driving who knows how many hours to come home skunked!
