there is no restriction on type of firearm for small game. As long as you are following open season dates you are good to use a sling shot. Interesting note though you may want to check municipal bylaws as here in Vaughan discharge firearms is prohibited and they list slingshots as well.

I tried targets with slingshots... I can say I won't be able to kill something with it unless I got lucky. small game has a better chance of dying of laughter then me hitting them in between the eyes.

Think the answer is no. Ducks, geese, doves all fall under migratory rules and I believe other than bows firearms shooting a single projectile is prohibited so no rifles be it center fire, rim, or air and my guess slingshots.

I know a guy that successfully hints small game with a slingshot all the time...but he has installed an arrow rest and shoots arrows with it. Not sure where that falls under the law but if there's no restrictions on firearms for small game as stated above it should be okay. Looks pretty cool!!!

Page 79 in the hunting regs.. is a must read for small game hunters The firearms section can be very tricky.

If you are hunting small game in an area where there is an
open season for deer, moose, elk, or black bear, you may
not possess or use a rifle of greater muzzle energy than 400
foot-pounds or shells loaded with ball or with shot larger than
No. 2 shot (non-toxic equivalents include steel shot larger
than triple BBB, or bismuth larger than double BB), unless
you possess a valid licence to hunt deer, moose, elk or black
bear as the case may be. This restriction does not apply south
of the French and Mattawa Rivers during an open season for
deer that is restricted to the use of bows.
A person hunting small game may not carry or use a rifle
of greater calibre than a .275-calibre rifle, except a muzzleloading
gun, in the geographic areas of Brant, Chatham-Kent,
Durham, Elgin, Essex, Haldimand, Halton, Hamilton, Huron,
Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Norfolk, Northumberland,
Oxford, Peel, Perth, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington or York.

tricky?

I have often wondered about this also. The regs do clearly outline the requirements and limitations... but for firearms. As such I assume these laws fall under the authority of the firearms act as well as the hunting regs however (to the best of.my understanding) the regs do not outline the rules for hunting game with something that is not defined as a firearm i.e. Slingshot, pointed stick, boomerang, rock. Any thoughts?
