I had the pleasure of meeting Dave in early February before leaving for BC. I dropped buy to donate a few items for the M&G and he kindly invited me into his inner sanctum basement. I was quite taken back at the collection of his own personal taxidermy,at the same time trying not to appear like a child in Willie Wonkas chocolate factory,L.O.L! I was very impressed with his work and his hunting skills. Row upon row of antlers, and beautiful owls and well just about everything. At one point I thought I was in a David Attenboroughs (BBC Nature Film). L.O.L! By all accounts Dave was and still is an exceptional taxidermist (although not practicing)and IMO,capable of doing museum quality taxidermy with his skill.
Upon further discussion we found out, that we both knew the same people. Dave through his association with the Taxidermy Assc and mine as friends in my younger days that I fished and hunted with before they got into the field of Taxidermy. They were Italo Labignan and Gary & Linda Monterrey, who are all proficient taxidermists,in their own right that had done a lot of work for me back in the day.
Thanks Dave,it was a great hour spent talking and reminiscing with you and being able to put a face to the man.

Jmah ,your absolutely dead on with that statement.Never owned camo, bought most of my gear from Canadian Tire and Westend gun shop.Had one tackle box and 2 rods .No catch and release back then.Still have and use guns I bought when I was a teenager. My 870 Wingmaster is my treasure.Saved all summer to buy that gun.I remember lugging moose meat out of the bush for my dad and his buddies when I was a young buck.No atvs back then.Hunting Northern Ontario was special back then.

Do not want to start a crap show here but would like to post my humble opinion. I really don't believe the decline in the animal and fish population is a result of the old timers over harvesting years ago. When I first hunted in the early sixties we would not see another hunter for the full two weeks of the hunt we usually filled our tags. Now with the introduction of the ATV's and all the logging roads one has to be very careful not to get run over or shot. The same deal for the fishing. Always put two shacks on Nip and harvested lots of fish to eat never wasted a bit. Now everything is so commercialized condo"s everywhere trucks cars and atv traffic like a highway. There were no fish finders cell phones gps radios or rifle optics just a lot of walking and hard work. I really feel kind of sorry for future generations and consider myself very lucky to have lived during what I consider the good times jmah
Good post jmah although N.G . posted his pics that are ancient yet cool no answer . I want to add on or tag onto your post if I may
jmah There has been great pressure to basically annihilate moose populations in NW Ontario to build the Woodland Caribou back up to their traditional numbers in those zone areas . Personally I feel this will be another MNRF fail again . MNRF loaded those areas with tags to get this done . Read about it . It's there all in black and white . Also cancellation of spring bear hunt for 15 years plus moratoriums and limiting of yotes and wolves by tags and outright ban to harvest is a final nail in the coffin .
We never had these issues before and way more moose and yes hunters back then . Does the new tech help ? Yes it does have an influence on moose kills but wouldn't be as hard on them as the great MNRF playing games regarding predators and protection of them does .
We never had yotes here till MNRF via the Profs John and Mary Theberge screwed things up all in the name of some eastern redwolf that doesn't exist but apparently was exclusive to Algonquin Park so buffer areas were set up to protect this pure gene . BS . Yes coyotes are expanding but any true wolf gene is getting watered down because of this decision . And these same idiots are now expanding these bans to other parks .
Turning into coyote town all over or hybrids . Same BS .
