When I saw the title of this thread, I was thinking something completely different
Neat article though, I'm not surprised at all that cougars exist in Ontario.

Been Cougar Sightings all Over Ontario From Northern to Southern. As a matter Fact a Bush I hunt, was in the spotlight couple years back due to a Cougar Sighting.

I haven't Seen One. I would think seeing one is like Finding BigFoot lol

I was out Hunting Turkeys with a Buddy a couple years back near the big city of Acton Ontario.

I heard this Coyote yipping non stop for a half hour or so. I seen him at the end of the Field I was set up in.

After a while I noticed him or her run like it had seen a Ghost off into the Bush east of me. I thought nothing of it but it was unusual.

When I finally walked down to see what my Buddy was doing, I noticed that he had moved out and was sitting in the middle of a Fence Line?

When I asked him w.t.f. he was doing, he said he say a big Cat come out from where the Coyote was yipping at.

I laughed and said "Big Cat" eh? he said yeah, it was six feet long and scared him half to death.

Again, I did not see it & I went to see if there were any tracks to be found but the ground was too hard.

Amazing. Not the first story of the big Cats down my way?

I used to see lots of cougars around the Atherley Arms in Orillia. Some of them were rather aggressive and even bite...

Great read and good news! I have always wondered about these big cats in our backwoods and now I know that rustling behind me might not be a bunny rabbit..

all joking aside one night in the late 70's at our remote deer camp in the loring area ,we had something prowling around outside emiting the most blood curdling screams we had ever heard.funny thing was the hounds were outside and would not come out of their doghouses or even bark at the critter.and those hounds were seasoned veterans.years later I listened to a recording of a couger on youtube and I'm damned sure that's what we had at our camp

I personaly saw a couger in the Stevensville area in southern ont. I used to do a rural paper route by truck and saw the same one (my opinion) a few times through the winter. I hunted dear in the area for years and always seen signs of it and found deer carcass on occasion

I was driving to Timmins a couple years ago and just before I hit temagami I was coming around a bend and saw cat cross in front of me big enough it didn't break stride to get over the guard rail and it's tail went to the ground and half way back up to its back again. I got no proof just saying it was no lynx!!!

Yes and never totally extinct in Ontario It blows my mind anyone saying they don't exist as MNR did for years . Loring Manitoulin Orillia have had too many confirmed by knowledgeable folks sighting , Even here . I have caught lynx wolves etc You can't mistake that jump or tail drag in fresh snow . That's as close as I have been to one in Ontario but know trappers whose word I take .

We just don't care to tell you everything we see nor do we carry cams around 24/7 . There will be no mistaking that long tail to the bob of a lynx trust me . Long stride dragging a 4 ft plus tail with a round track is no wolf or yote .

I still want to to know what my buddy and I saw 6 years ago. When in had my atv pass we were rising trails in Baxter and right alongside us we saw what I can honestly describe as a panther. Looked like a cougar but all black. It walked beside us for a few minutes and I got too scared and gunned it at the first straightaway I had. Heard rumors of someone keeping a panther as a pet in Coldwater and it getting out. Who knows? Can cougars be all black?

Saw one for 5 seconds on the west side of lake Nipigon while moose hunting but only got photos of prints in the snow-too big for a lynx-2010

Hey guys; Yup I believe there are cougars in Ontario , Just have to wonder why a pix of one has not shown up on one of the thousands of trail cams set up all year..??
