ticks and dogs

found my first tick on my dog last week, I removed it with tweezers, head and all and now have him on nexgard from my vet. other than a good examination when I'm home from the bush, does anybody recommend any other preventative measures. any info is always appreciated

There is a spray you can buy to prevent bug bites on dogs. Can't recall the name. Also there is a spray you can get for horses to do the same thing. Again can't remember the name. Don't use tweezers next time. Buy a Tick Key. Cheap and is a really good tool to use for removal.

Dish soap for tick removal, use a drop on the tick 2 min, will wipe of with a q tip.

I use a drop peppermint oil to remove them. They back right out when placing a drop on them.
For prevention I treat my hound dogs with ivamec.
