Pigeon Hunting?

Anybody here hunt pigeons? either for food or simply to clear a nuisance. Got a few questions if anybody is experienced in this area.

Ask away. Not an expert but as with most of my hunting I'm a jack of all trades.


Although they make for great wing shooting they are also good table fare.
Getting harder and harder to find a good pigeon hunt as they are considered a pest bird and farmers clean them out before they get to any numbers.

The theme of this days hunt was ...if the geese don't show up at least there are some pigeons around. Fortunately both showed up.

I've never hunted them before, not a huge population around my place but if I were further south and had an area I could get good numbers, they'd be getting my attention for sure.

Certainly a fun day yet can be quite humbling. Tough bird and add to that a fast twisting flight one of the hardest targets to hit.

I've heard that they can make you a much better shooter on the wing. What load do you generally use for them? and do you need to camo up for them like waterfowl?

will certainly make you a better wing shooter. I use #4 lead gameload 2 3/4" when I can when they a decoying well improved cylinder if not a mod choke. Blind and camo just like duck hunting you be surprised how fast they wise up after a couple rounds.
