Spring Bear, Bait ideas

Hey everyone. Bear seasons is fast approaching and I'm looking to get out for the first time. Wondering if anyone has any cheap bait ideas. I'm planning to use corn but would love to hear what everyone else is thinking. Wondering if anyone has any super cheap ideas to add to the corn. (I'm also using fryer grease)

Call your local feed mill , some carry bulk molasses pour it over the corn and let it soak in ..pulls em in good..

I've had really good success with fish carcasses, fruit peels and molasses. I like the stuff that stinks lol

Corn mix with dry molasse. 20kg corn with 2-3 kg of dry molasse mix it( ratio). Then pour grease over and around the drum. 45 gallon drum with 4-5 (2" hole) on the side. The bear will be rolling the drum to get their corn and stay longer. If you put the grease in the drum, mood will result. Prrsonnaly i don't feed them moldy stuff. I'm eating the bear meat. I got my bear every year since 2008

Leftover sweets from the donut shops and coffee trucks use too work great.

Does anyone know where to buy cheap molasses? It's close to 34.00 at TSC with taxes.

If you know a trapper ask for a beaver carcass; wire it about chest high to a laid over or broken tree, a bears favourite food. Try pancake syrup (sweet and sticky) pour some on the ground (so the bears track it away and draw more bears in) even a can of apple juice (hang up high with a small puncture let the drips run down a tree).

Dog food mixed with something sweet - maybe even Donuts. But anything meat based with give off a smell they will come to investigate.

for cost savings I used bread - putting less in as I got closer to when I was going to hunt.

If they weren't the 1st couple of bears in (nothing to eat) easy way to get a shooter.

Raspberry filled donuts -- more natural than Boston Creams.

Nothing is cheaper than popcorn. About three bucks worth of kernels can fill a garbage bag. Nice and light to carry too. Just takes time to pop that much with my little hot air popcorn maker!
I save my bacon grease and oil from cooking fish all year to pour on top. everything mentioned on this thread works, it's just a matter of how much you are willing to spend and what you have access to

Probably too far for most but the feed mill in Glen Huron carries molasses in bulk liquid form ..take your own container ..cheap by the pound..

If you know someone that owns/manages a restaurant, ask them to save the oil for you the next time they change out the oil in the deep fryers. Pour over popcorn or dried cut up bread.

Used cooking oil , get it bulk from restaurants, its cheap , smells , and they love it.
