You've gotta be kidding!

Im not trying to stir anything up as I do not own a firearm, nor do I plan on it. I just want to become more knowledgeable on the subject.

Why is having a gun registry a negative thing?

A criminal will never register his gun! Handguns have always been registered with strict rules. Long guns are mainly used for hunting/target shooting. Very few crimes are committed with a long gun because they are difficult to conceal. Once they start with something they will let usually keep it going. eg. Next they will ban semiautomatic weapons or have limits on how many guns one can own. I take gun ownership very seriously and always want to own firearms. Trudeau and a liberal majority are downright scary to have in power when it comes to this subject.

It's only scary if you dont own guns!😉

Police also had instant access and if visiting your home for any number of reasons they enter with a different demeanor because you own a long gun. Also heard but not confirmed they go to a no knock rule if it's a domestic and they know a long gun is registered at the address. Not good for itchy trigger fingers especially when the long gun is probably locked away separately from its ammo and trigger locked.

That all makes a lot of sense! thanks guys! I am not a hunter nor will probably become a hunter in the near future, so I have no need for guns. I definitely can side with you guys on this one. Waste of tax payers dollars. unfortunately, MANY MANY things the government does is a waste of tax payers dollars.

To own a gun, not just for hunting, isn't it a requirement to have a gun license, so the government would have a database of gun licenses anyway?

True BUT just Google "High River Gun Seizures RCMP" and get ready to a class on what happens when the damn government has TOO much information and (they think) power. Still think your home is your castle and safe?????
High River totally changed my way of thinking about our RCMP and who they really are. The fact that I am a hunter and have been for almost 45 years is no secret and something I am proud of. I personally have never and will never own a hand gun. I have no use for one. As my father use to say...."if you can't drop it with a 12 Gauge, you should not be shooting...you should be running!!!"
The old man was wise. One of my guns has been in the family for 5 generations...and I sure as hell am not going to turn it over to Justin without putting up a hell of a fight.
Information is power and High River taught Canadians what happens when the Government thinks it can get away with abusing the rights of Canadians. Canadians will not roll over easily and sure as hell NOT without a fight.

It is requirement for any gun owner to have a license. Even for pellet guns that shoot over 500 fps. To get a license you need to take a classroom course as well as a hands on test. Then you need to submit your info to the government where they check your references and do a back ground check. To own a hand gun you need addition testing and there are very strict rules on where you can take it. Pretty much only to an approved shooting range. We already have a good system set up. Suppose there is a domestic at a house, how long does it take for the Police to get there?? 5 minutes...4 minutes...8 minutes.?? Do you really think they've had the time to communicate with the CFP to get the skinny on that house? Have you ever tried calling that center?

As a former PO, I can tell you that they treat every house the same...like there is a possibility that someone is armed.

If a cop knows there are guns I guarantee you they will be on edge and treat the situation differently.

I think I would agree with Lima. If I were a cop, id treat every situation as if there was a gun involved. can never be too careful.
