Neighbourhood Coyotes, What to do?

I live in Alcona with my home and yard backing onto EP land. The EP land consists of some ponds and forest. We still live in a subdivision but get plenty of wildlife. We've had deer, turkey, geese, mink, hawks, Osprey, owls, coons, and every type of bird imaginable behind our chain link fence.

My problem is that last week I had to chase a large fox away from my back fence as it was having a stare down with one of my two smaller sized dogs. I yelled and swung my arms but the fox actually had the nerve to stop and watch me from about 25 feet away. If I lived in the country this problem would have already been solved by Mr. Remington.

Now I have another problem. Last night I was awoken by my wife around 11:30pm saying Coyotes were behind the fence (only 4ft tall, if that with the snow). I could hear them yelping and barking at each other. I went to look out my second floor window and opened it up. It creaked open (somewhat loudly) and they stopped yelping. I tried looking for awhile but couldn't see any with it being so dark.

This isn't the first time we have heard them as it's almost every night, but they seem to be coming closer. What is a guy to do? Just live with the threat to my animals?

P.S. Sorry for the long winded rant.

Maybe call the city and they might hire a trapper ? I am a trapper in Orillia and we have coyotes 1 block over right in the middle of town.

Town will ignore you. Use a bow to rid this problem

Careful.... if you have a tree hugging neighbour that might be a problem you do not want to put yourself in. you might not be able to discharge that bow in around your area.

I lived in Maple for years in a dense subdivision. I saw yotes mid day walking down the middle of the streets. Had to cut one off with the car as it was heading towards a neighbour walking a small dog. The yote dodged pass the car and continued directly for the lady and small dog. After honking and distracting the yote he calmly trotted off. I remember the poor lady asked me.... "who's dog is that? Is he yours?"

Hahaha, get a real dog sized dog if you want to live next to the wilderness.

Practice throwing knives and hatchets, or even a 'death star'. Totally legal inside of cities.

Or get some subsonic ammunition and go for a head shot if you don't mind breaking the law.

Hey guys , learn to live with them. That's the mnr answer.. Hey, there's coyotes all over even around school yards , bears in Newmarket, now a moose here in Minissing and those dam deer are here eating my bushes in front of my window and I'm in a subdivision..

No answers, just facts.. if we try to take control into our own hands lookout for the tree huggers revenge... But the story changes quickly when a coyote goes after " Fifi"..

If you are anywhere near where I used to live in Alcona and by the description you might just be (I used to live on laurand st) just be careful with lethal objects after dark because when I was there it was around 10 or 11 every night when the neighbourhood children 12 and under would be out playing on bicycles and 4 wheelers in the woods on the other side of my backyard fence...

I was fishing in Belle ewart and had one sneak up on me in the middle of the day. Wasn't scared at all. I unsheated my auger and gave chase to the mangy bugger. He might have been trying to steal my perch or maybe thought I was a much smaller pray when I am sitting on my stool but he scared me good nonetheless

That is so weird because I live in Alcona and I heard the coyotes yipping last night as well around 3 AM (I think still half asleep) and then they stopped. I think it was near the pond. I figured they must have got something to eat a rabbit or cat (not too many cats roaming) and calling the others to come and eat. My wife has been walking the dog in the forest and seen them in the distance but they took off.

I hate the damn things, they are smart though ill give em that.Always about 10 yards outta range (They like to walk by at 50-60 yards when I'm bow hunting When its gun I got buddies to close to shot at it, if they had a deer near em it would scare em and with 5 days I cant screw there hunt up like that)

I had one stare down my pup from the other side of the fence and when I yelled and screamed at it he just stared at me. Put a 22 caliber pellet in its butt and I haven't seen him since. Not enough to kill him but I'm sure it left an impression!

Hey guys I think we need a real definition of,"tree huggers:Many persons that hunt and fish are tree huggers.Where would we be without trees and people who believe in wise management.
