Hey guys -

I just got back to Toronto from my first bear hunt in Lake of the Woods. I got a 200lb black bear and am looking to have the hide made into a rug... any suggestions on where I could get this done at a reasonable cost / good quality?

Any insights appreciated!

Thanks,
Denis

Rugs will cost anywhere between $400-$1200 depending on what you want done. Where in TO are you. Advanced Taxedermy in Caledon is fantastic, Wildlife Artistry is in Orangeville but has a spot to pickup and drop off in Mississauga. Caledon Mountain Taxidermy is also just north of Brampton.

Awesome, thanks guys!

I know of Advanced Taxidermy (and know that they're among the best)... they quoted a minimum charge of $1500 plus $250 per ft. above a certain size (thought he said 5')

Anyway I'll check out the other guys, thanks for the recommendations.

Denis

Holy crap.

At those prices, I'd be googling the hell out of how to do it yourself.

Found Oakville Taxidermy. The guy has been doing it for almost 20 years and the work looked great / good reviews.

He quoted $190/ft. with no minimum charge... think i found my guy.

Thanks again,
Denis

Great Picture. Thanks for posting. BTW that looks like a Sako A7 roughtech. I just picked one up at Cabelas in a 7mm Rem Mag.

Thanks - it's actually a Winchester Model 70 - Extreme Weather SS in 30-06

I got it earlier this year, so it was the first hunt with it.

Looks like a sweet rifle. And once again congrat's on getting a bear with the first hunt with your new rifle. I am jealous. (I go next weekend for some grouse and bear hunting north of Sudbury.)

Sounds great, thanks guys - just called Brain's Taxidermy, they're still in business after the fire.
