So far this year I'm up to seven. Every year it's the same thing, come September they begin to migrate closer to the house. I normally do well but this year I've met my match. Seems they know how to get the peanut butter off the trigger with out any problem. I tried tying braid around the pan and embedding the PB in it, that normally works, waxing the trigger for a more hair trigger, setting with a hair trigger but each morning the PB is gone and trap remains set. What do you guys use to outsmart the smart ones.

check that you dont have ants, ive seen ants clean out my peanut butter in under 2 hours flat and they dont set off the traps. try some hard cheese instead.

at my hunt camp I use the bucket and can with peanut butter smeared on it works great. fill a pail half full with washer fluid and get a pop can with a rod thru it. I use a welding rod. put the pail where the mice are and put a 2 by 2 ramp up to it at the top. smear peanut butter on the can and when the mice climb the ramp and reach for the peanut butter the can spins, they lose their balance and fall into the washer fluid I don't have a picture but the setup works wonders. just be careful if you have a dog you must keep him or her away from the washer fluid for obvious reasons. try to google this setup it does work

I was over 30 last year, finally broke the 20 mark last week. I use peanuts in the shell wired to the the bait flipper with 22ga copper phone wire, Use the double peanuts with the narrow middle. I also gave up with actual mouse traps, I use the larger rat trap version.

The bucket with a can or empty water bottle is by far the best mouse and Rat trap ever.this one.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTN7t3jwGr8 ....Or this one...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eF6xwUSkT1k

Fool proof I bait my traps with hard cheese once on the bait pan I melt it with a lighter & force it under the lip When it cools the cheese gets hard and they can't get it off you don't have to rebait the trap when stop catching put them in a ziplock bag till the next time

Great comments keep them coming, this is one smart mighty mouse hopefully there is a trophy picture to post tomorrow in the am. I'm going to try Fishing Fan method tonight, got the traps and scotch tape. I have had great success myself by tying some braid around the pan but even that has failed this year. If the tape fails again I'm building one of the rotating cans of death for the multiple catches tomorrow. I like the cheese trick but I don't want to share my 8 year old cheddar just yet. I'll keep you posted

My dad called me last year and said he had a mouse going through his stove vent exhaust pipe and into the cupboard and eating his cereal. He put some cereal out and waited for the bastard with an iron pan. He eventually got him.

A guy I work with uses a cast iron pan with some oIL in it and a piece of cardboard on the handle with a spoon on top of that sticking out over the pan with the peanut butter on it. Hook's the red terminal of a car battery to the spoon and the black to the pan and when the mouse stands up to get the peanut butter and touches both part's he completes the circuit and no more mouse!

That sounds interesting but I would be afraid of a fire.
