My son Nate has been itching to go hunting with me. We had planned to go out this morning for Grouse or Rabbit. We got up early this morning and headed to the bush. On the way he told me about reading an article on Grouse in my Ontario Out of Doors magazine. He started to tell me what we needed to look for. "Dad, let's look for sunny spots, birch trees, and open areas in the forest." I can't believe he had read my hunting magazines as he is only ten. We got to the forest and started down a trail. About twenty minutes into our hike Nate said, "Dad, this looks like a good spot. It's nice and sunny for them to warm up." Sure enough there was a Grouse strutting around on the forest floor. I shot it just as it started to take flight. My best buddy Nate instantly became a retriever and headed off to find it. Was he ever PUMPED! Picture below...
We had seen one more grouse but lost sight of it in the thick stuff before getting a shot.
Now off to his hockey game, and later a little shared snack of our hunting prize. I'm so proud of him. What a great day with my son!
