One thing I found helps with the old style traps is to not only put cheese or peanut butter on the paddle, put some under it, right up to the pivot point. You might also want to bend the paddle down slightly so they have to lift it higher.

Hahaha two down. 3 empty traps 1 untouched. I do believe two of the empty traps are victims of slugs. The other was a tricky mouse as it left it's tell tale sign

Had mouse problem. Got a cat. No more mouse problem. They don't even come in anymore. It's like they can smell the cat. Cat still manages to get one or 2 a day outside.

Another thing I heard works if you don't have a cat but know someone who does borrow a used litter box and keep it in the area the mice are getting in. Rumour has it the scent will keep the mice away. Then again you will have a used litter box hanging around.

If that does work then I'm sure anyone wouldn't have a problem finding cat crap from a cat owner. I'll give it to you for free + the shipping cost. Endless supply:) Might work out to be cheaper than poison or traps:)

+1 for the bucket trap. Way cleaner than traditional mouse traps. Use water if your looking after it every few days. I leave one over the winter at my cottage after close up and fill it at least half full or better with antifreeze. A lot of it evaporates and no stink. Usually have 20 mice when I return in the spring! Easy clean up!! Also I lean a piece of hardwood flooring up to the bucket to make it easy for them to get up there to they're demise.

I'm up another 2 today. Tape seems to be working although three of the traps had the tape missing or pulled off and trap licked clean. Slugs are also attracted to the PB. I'm going to treat them to a little cheese tonight. I washed down the traps and filed some of the triggers. Looking for that hat trick tomorrow.

I have 4 bait stations around my house that I made with abs pipe and threaded rod few nuts. Basically an upside down T that rodents can go into and eat the bait block that is on the vertical threaded rod. Works great the odd one that gets in the house gets taken out with a regular old mouse trap and peanut butter, Or one of the 2 dogs will hunt it down.

a nut or raisin stuck in the pb gives em something to grab on to and actually press the trigger instead of just licking it off
Yep... raisin and PB for me. Although the bucket of death sounds interesting. I got a surprise catch yesterday. I'm not exactly sure but suspect a rat ?
