I think it's personal preference. I enjoy giving my prey a sporting chance. I've done quite well with my xbow and just started with my muzzle loader. Must admit, of all the fire arms I've shot, the muzzle loader has been the most enjoyable. If ya had to pick one.... go with your gut

I hunt with both. If you are hunting on your own bow season is much longer and I think more challenging. I muzzle load in the controlled hunt with a bunch of guys for 1 week of the season, it is a lot of fun to hunt with a group. Personally if not hunting in a group I would go with the bow for the extended season and the challenge.

Cross bow seasons typically the 1st of Oct to the 31st of Dec minus 5-6 days in Nov. Muzzle loader is 5-6 days in Nov. For that reason id get the crossbow, and if you have a shotgun, use that for the 5-6 day controlled hunt.

Have to agree....with a xbow you have a much longer seasons overall...Excalibur Micro is what I have!

Also have an Excalibur, although a much older one, it does the trick. If you get an Excalibur get a scope for it, slightly over 100$ I believe, but it helps a lot.

As others have already stated, a crossbow will typically give you a 3 month hunting season. Starting October 1, when temps are still warm and the deer are in their pre-rut phase, to late December when the rut is over and temps are cold. I'd go with the crossbow. A good crossbow with all its gear will probably cost you more than a muzzeloader. I'd bite the bullet this season, buy the crossbow, and next year you can get a muzzleloader. (A man can never have too many hunting toys.)
