Algonquin Wolf

As there is no open season for coyote and wolf in the Algonquin area. My question is what are my options if I have a predator problem going after live stock or my pets. We are looking into getting some chickens and rabbits for egg and meat production, but I don't need predators hanging around.

Eggs and meat for personal consumption or as a farm business? Reason I ask is that farmers have exceptions that allows them to protect their corps and animals.

Would be for personal use, we live off grid and want to take next step to being self sustained

For personal consumption you may not be able to do much so you might be out of luck. Best you can do is to try and make it difficult or unappealing to would be predators.

id inquire to the mnr to see about setting traps on your property...there might be an exemption for your own property.....its a good question

3 weeks ago a coyote tried luring my dog off my property into the bush.....where the pack was waiting,scary stuff

We keep chickens and ducks, and have coyotes and bears and racoons around all the time. Just gotta be diligent and fortify the coop, and be sure they go into the coop at night. It was a learning process, and we lost more than a few birds but haven't had issues for the last year at least, since we finally have the coop pretty well impenetrable.

Hey if you can shoot em, I'm not against it. Just sayin' you can have birds either way.

Shooting them won’t solve the problem as more will come. You will kill a raccoon today and next week a new one will move in. Hardlycore is correct with making sure they cannot get into the coop and that will save your birds and rabbit. I know you might not like having wolves around your property but that goes with living off grid.

I doubt the right to protect your property is reserved only for farmers.

Coyotes are very intelligent. If you throw some lead at them when they come by it won't take them long to figure out that your place is dangerous.

You can do as you like to deal with predators, provided you've got a little property. Just keep it off the Internet.

Do like everyone did before...no one was ever up in arms about a guy shooting a trophy cougar....it still happened, just nobody knew about it.

Same as the guy jumping on a moose from a boat....probably happened before, just never on YouTube, so nobody cried foul.

With regards to most pest like skunks and raccoon I’ll agree... but he specifically asked about Algonquin Wolf. They are species at risk and those rules don’t apply when protecting your property.

I am no tree hugger and would shot the last rhino for it’s ivory too. Just don’t want to mislead someone into getting in trouble.
