Scope, For turkeys

I am thinking that I might put a scope on my shotgun for turkey hunting. Any advice would be appreciated. I am thinking of a red dot & I need it to be able to take the recoil of 3.5 shot. Cheers

I don't think it's nessary espically shooting turkeys in around 10-40 yard range .

Shot size and chokes play a bigger factor when gunning them down .

Every gun patterns down differently. Run different shot size along with full or extra full chokes. See
what patterns down better. Some times even different loads shoot faster and tighter than others .

I started re-loading my own Turkey loads.

Got to ask why do you think you need a scope?
I find a scope really only is needed if bad form is in play.
If you can keep the cheek pinned and the eye down the barrel than a scope isn't needed. However if your form is poor and you just can't keep your head down than a scope it is.

I have a Red Dot on my 12 gauge and shooting 31/2 does not effect it at all.

I have always hunted turkeys with my Winchester that only takes 2.75 shells. I have let a lot of turkeys go that were in the 30-35 yd range as I don't want to injure them. I bought a 3500 Stoeger so I can take a bit longer shot. My eye sight is not as good as it used to be in low light conditions as I have cataracts & they tell me that I have to wait a bit longer before they take them out.

Rather than a scope, what about a "fiber optic" sight? Dead Ringer make a front and rear sight combination with enhanced optical lexan ring called "Beard Buster" (pretty much the same thing as their "Duck Buster" -- this expands their market....?). I have it on my gun and finds it quickly draw your eye to the target. It's about a $30 investment, so not a bank breaker by any means.
