While driving up to Timmins on Tuesday, a large cougar ran across the road in front of my truck. I stopped to see if it was staring back from the bush but it was gone.
How common are these guys? I know from living in SWO for 15 years, they are more common along the Thames river. How far north is their range?

Well for a species that was not supposed to be in Ontario, for over 100 years I have been told be the farmers wife where I hunt she saw one on her walk around the farm. She has stopped that now. I know another guy that says while turkey hunting locally he had one come up behind him. He almost crapped himself. Know of them being see in Orillia area lately. I seen one back in the 70's in WMU 47. Lots of sightings, I would think the north has the most of the population

I saw one near simcoe about 4 years ago they are around.
We also have a mounted Bob cat in the family from a road kill that the ministry absolutely denied it was a Bob cat until they saw it. Just because you dont see them does not mean they are not around.

I still have yet to see someone get one on trail cam 🤔
Are you trying to make a point? If so, what is it?
He does have a good point.....with all the trail cams out I’m surprised no one has a picture of one.I had someone show me a trail cam picture of a wild boar and no one sees them around either. Just my two cents worth ,not trying to start a fight.

Unless cougars can be all black my buddy and i saw a panther on an ATV trail near Baxter. Rode along side of it for almost a minute before it went into the bush. This was around the time cameras started appearing on phones and i believe i still had the nokia "brick". Years later heard of a guy that used to have panthers near coldwater and 1 got loose.
