now that is sad. MNR should come good on that, it would only be one extra tag and it was their screwup.
It really doesn't matter anyway, I just like to use shotgun to hunt once and awhile. Last year my oldest had a controlled tag and filled it the first week of bow season. I ended up getting 2 bucks and not filling one tag.
Hey, I, m confused here , Your son filled his tag during the archery season and didn't hunt the controlled ?? you got two deer and didn,t use a tag ?? enlighten me ..

I had 3 tags total, all 3 bow tags. I got 2 deer which filled 2 tags, and I didn't fill the 3rd tag. The boy filled his 1 tag, with a bow, before the controlled hunt that is was drawn for. He could have party hunted in the controlled hunt, but not tagged anything.

Most bow seasons are closed when the controlled hunt is on. Check the regs for the WMU you want to hunt. My area there is a controlled hunt in November and one in December. So no bow hunting in those 2 weeks, and only deer hunting in the bush if you have been drawn for the controlled hunt.

Your son filled his controlled hunt tag with a bow before the controlled hunt?

The controlled hunt "tag" is not a tag, it's a validation allowing the hunter to participate in the controlled hunt, during which the regular deer tag is used, which can be filled at any time during the now season as well.

mayday,
does that mean you don't have a spot to hunt in 76B?
It's the first time I'm doing the controlled hunt. I have a spot I'm going to try. I didn't know you couldn't party hunt
Yes ; You can party hunt during controlled hunt , my take is others must be part of the group that applied ..
Another note ; Yes you can hunt deer during the controlled with out being drawn as long as it's in an area that has no gun season ..eg ..archery ..
In my controlled hunt area, controlled hunt is Dec and they shut down archery hunting during that time
Hey RR; 'In an area that has "NO" gun season"..eg zone 78 etc..
78 bow season- October 1 to November 3, November 9 to December 1, December 7 to December 31.
78 controlled season- November 4 to 8, December 2 to 6.
You're saying you can hunt bow in the controlled hunt? I know you have to wear hunter orange when hunting bow in gun season.
Just curious where is says you can in the regs?
Thanks
Oops , my bad , Didn't qualify , True some zone 78 areas have gun seasons and archery is closed during those hunts ..But the areas I hunt fall within the 78 c,d and e which have no gun season what so ever and archery for deer runs Oct 1 - Dec 31 with no closures

I bow hunt in 69a2. There is no gun hunt except for the controlled hunt which is the first week only in December . During that week bow hunting is closed. Then opens back up for the remainder of the month

Sorry I'm still a little confused
I didn't apply for a deer tag. I got my deer licence which gives me a buck tag. I applied for the controlled hunt and was successful (Hunt Code: 305, WMU: 76B, Any Deer, Shotguns and Muzzle-loading guns only)
So it's the same tag? I can shoot a buck in bow season or any deer in the controlled hunt? I can't shoot both.

You are correct. The controlled hunt permit allows you to participate in the controlled hunt....it is not an extra tag. During the controlled hunt you can use your regular deer tag to tag a buck or doe. However in some controlled hunts the MNRF sells additional tags....you may want to check into that.
