Hi all, Looking to pick up my first crossbow, I like the idea of longer seasons and have hunted with/borrowed them before. Right now I am looking at the Barnett Explorer 400 with a <500 dollar price range.

Has anyone had any experience with this bow? Is Barnett a good brand? What are some other options I should look at?

Any tips are appreciated! Cheers!

I’m not familiar with Barnett crossbows. I have two Excaliburs that are deadly accurate and very dependable. I doubt I would buy any other make. Different strokes for different folks. Happy shopping.

I’ve had 2 Excalibur’s, one of which I still have. Very accurate bow. I think Steelheader Dave has a x bow for sale on this site.
Check out the buy and sell, it might be up your alley.
Bow season will be upon us soon. Good luck

no experience with barnett either. I use a Excalibur 380 and my son has a micro 355. Both are deady. I would go with the micro series if I ever had to change, so much smaller and easier to handle. only problem is I don't think my excalibur will ever wear out so I'm stuck with the 380

I've had 2 Excaliburs as well.....the only reason I went from the exomag to the micro is size.....was easier to carry the exomag than the micro...,but the micro is nice and compact.....if you can afford to get into an Excalibur I think that's the way to go.....also if you are out in a remote area and lose a string , its so easy to replace the string on the excalibur in the field! Whereas I think you need special tools to replace a string on a compound crossbow.?...but I've never had one so not sure....just what I've heard.

Good luck on your decision, it is a nice long season!

Ps....also if your a moose hunter, the excalibur is deadly!!....lol

Cheers
Greg

I wouldnt invest in anything other than an excalibur but i would suggest an older exo series rather than a micro or a matrix imo

The very affordable centerpoint sniper 370. Its fairly compact, great safety features and an absolutely tact driver. We own two and have never had an issue.
