Tons of great quality stuff on the market! I have the first version of the PSE fang budget entry level bow with safety features at the time we're generally only available on bows twice the price. I can't afford the amount of bolts it wrecks splitting them in target practise. As for toughness I was last ditch hunting one new years eve and broke through a creek I was crossing without thinking I tossed it trying to scramble myself back onto the bank while I was still only waist deep. Once I got back on solid ground I had to find the bow and just the very tip of the scope was all that was sticking out of the snowbank it was submerged in. Got it home dried it off lubed it up and not even a hair out. Nothing against excal. But my nod goes to compound as my bow thinner uncocked than a micro is clocked and there's about a third of the string noise of not less than a recurve especially if you give a ten point a try! Good luck and Im sure you'll enjoy whatever it is you get!

I bought my son his first crossbow last year for Christmas. It was a Carbon Express compound and it is crazy accurate. On targets set at 80 yards he could keep them in a 4 inch circle. This was with field points and not recommended for hunting distance but it shows you how accurate it is. It is also very quiet which is the issue I have with my Excaliber. I can’t speak for its longevity but he has easily fired a thousand arrows out of it with no problems. We chronographed it and it is slower than advertised but not by much. Here’s the best part....it cost 400 dollars.
