So starts the upland season in Southern Ontario. Frosty temps last week gave way to a return of sautry weather. Morning broke to fog and mist in the air with a forecasted high of 25'C. Put Nova down first and off we went. First point was in some thick credars had me thinking first grouse of the season. Nope a wayward woodcock lift giving me no shot. Bit further along another solid point and this time it was a grouse going straight away. Lift the gun pulled the trigger and no boom. First thought figured must off forgot to slip the safety off. The dog worked on and managed to pin down another grouse. Another easy going away shot but again no boom. This time took a closer look at the gun and figured something was amiss. Trigger seem locked and couldn't trouble shoot in the rough. By this time the loop was almost finished some worked back to the vehicle. Fortunately for me always pack a second gun so moved to the next spot and put down stella. Although leaves were falling from last weeks frost the canopy still quite thick. Well thats my excuse for missing a couple of grouse and a few woodcock. Finally managed to connect with one. Called it by noon as the dogs and hunter were pooped.
Got home and broke down the gun. seems a small twig had some how settled in the trigger assemby causeing the jam.
Lesson learned full brakedown and cleaning more often.
